Website and attempts to log in show critical failure
-
Hi,
I am experiencing a critical error on our wesbite – i was given a log in to our website, and upon trying to update a theme, i am now only seeing there is a critical error. I can’t access the site or the dashboard anymore, I don’t have FTP access. The webhost provider is Nessus GmbH / Nessus easyname.
The website was running on 7.1 php and hadn’t been updated since about 2019. I clicked update on the theme which appears to have crashed the entire website. I have no experience in using WordPress (which is why I unknowingly have now removed the entire site from the Internet!!)
Any help would be appreciated on how to get access back to the dashboard and to get the site back up.

Your site is self-hosted WordPress (with Nessus GmbH), not WordPress.com, so we can’t directly help here.
Contact Nessus GmbH / easyname immediately:
They can:
Access your site files from their end
Restore from backup
Revert the theme update that caused the crash
Fix the critical error
They don’t need FTP – they have backend access to your server.
For self-hosted WordPress help:
WordPress.org forums: https://wordpress.org/support/
What happened:
The theme update wasn’t compatible with your old PHP 7.1/WordPress setup, causing the crash.
Your hosting provider is the fastest solution – contact them urgently!
