If you wanted to take a backup of your site, then you can go to your admin panel
1) go to Tools > Export
2) Now on Export page, Click on the “Export” link.
3) On next page select “All Content” radio button and click on “Download Export” file.
One data backup file will be downloaded into your PC. You’re done.In short, you can try this direct link for your wordpress blog

I believe I need the database backup in .sql format for me to import it into iPower. The file was generated in .xml format in WordPress

It looks like they want two backups: one for the website and one for the database. I need to upload the website files to my iPower account via FTP. I need to import the database backup files into a newly created database using MySQL. This seems WAY more complicated than it should be. I have the web host, the domain name, and the WordPress blog — why all this fuss? Can I speak to someone at WordPress directly?

You can’t get a mysql database copy from WordPress.COM – you can export your content as posted above – but sorry no database copy
