Website building

Hi all, this is a question of a layman and has probably a very straightforward answer. Is it correct that Worpress can be used purely to create a website? Are there templates available to create a website? Or is it all blog-related?
Many thanks for your kind responses.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I think it is just for blogging
[MOD EDIT- Your blog is already linked in your username. Posting your URL is not allowed]

Listen to @duto not the spammer @bhutanesecricket
WordPress software (either .ORG or .COM versions) can be used for almost anything including “regular” web sites – any “blog” is also a web site. WordPress software is optimized to make adding content to a web site very easy. Because of the heritage of WordPress it is set up with a Post based bias, but you can use Pages and make your site look and feel like a more traditional web page – if you take that route you might want to read the other threads in the Forum on the advantages and also the down side to a Page based site.

A WordPress blog can either be structured as a page based website or its conventional post based structure can be retained. http://en.support.wordpress.com/using-wordpress-to-create-a-website/ That’s why understanding the the differences between posts and pages is key to decision making. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/There is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages.
We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. Although there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance we have done so by creating a custom menu. In that custom menu you can include Pages and sub-pages, Categories and subcategories, and custom links.
What to include and what to exclude in that horizontal menu for your website that normally displays only tabs to static pages in a conventionally structured blogs is entirely up to you.
Read more here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/05/12/better-blogging-at-wordpress-com-pages-and-posts/There are no “templates specifically for websites” because any wordpress.com free hosted blog theme (aside from the P2 and Prologue themes that have a twitter like structure) can be restructured to become a website.

@christine1312, your a bit early asking that question because you have not made a post yet.

@dribblingpensioner
We aren’t aware of which blog the member is referring to. It could be one that’s bot linked to her username. Also asking up front about how to structure a website is an easier approach than changing blog structure from post based to page based after one has a lot of content. :) -
Planning ahead is good – my site sort of grew up and started as a basic html site to let me post some handouts about boating safety from classes I teach – using the WordPress software was an afterthought (originally a .ORG install, and FREE from my host) until I found out how nice WordPress software was to use and some of it’s many features, the end result is I have some things left from the “test lets see how this really works” stage, with pages called “test-page’2” etc that are now indexed by Google and others – the down side of getting the name because I could not resist it and then a sort of “now what the heck do I do with this?”
