website contents disappeared

My website and all contents are gone!?! I can’t login… it says my website isn’t a WordPress site.

  • Hi there,

What is the URL of the site you’re speaking of?

The account you’re using to post here only owns one site with us, https://kateannphotographydotnet.wordpress.com/, but that site hasn’t been updated since 2013.

You also had the Bluehost-hosted site, http://kateannphotography.net/, connected here via the Jetpack plugin, but our logs show you disconnected that site around 9 hours ago, just five minutes before posting this forum thread.

That site is behind a Bluehost landing page so I can’t see it, but I can only assume that any content you had on their servers are still safe and sound on their servers. You’ll have to contact their support if you have trouble accessing that site, though.

To access that site via your WordPress.com account again, you’ll first need to reconnect the Jetpack plugin from inside the WP-Admin dashboard.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I had a wordpress.com account and then (in 2013) switched to maybe wordpress.org with Bluehost for my hosting. URL is kateannphotography.net. I didn’t disconnect the Jetpack plugin… I haven’t been able to log into my WordPress database for a few weeks – so after spending a ridiculous amount of time on the phone and online chatting with Bluehost I reached out to y’all. All of my work since 2013/2014 has disappeared! Bluehost is in the process of loading a previous backup of my website. If you have any more suggestions, besides contacting Bluehost, I’m all ears. I was only able to login to wordpress.com – my wordpress.org is gone – says I’m not a user and points me back to wordpress.com.

  • Our logs show kateannphotography.net was connected to this WordPress.com account via Jetpack, and that that Jetpack connection was removed on 18 November.

That Jetpack connection is the only aspect of your site that we’re able to help with.

Your site is hosted with Bluehost, not with us, so your content is on their servers, not ours. If content you added to the site since moving to Bluehost has disappeared, it has disappeared from Bluehost’s servers – that content was never stored on our servers, so we have no way to help you recover it from this end. If that content is not in the backup Bluehost is restoring for you, then I’m afraid it’s gone.

my wordpress.org is gone – says I’m not a user and points me back to wordpress.com.

You would only have an account on WordPress.org if you’ve posted in the support forums over there before. A WordPress.org account, a WordPress.com account, and the admin account you use to log into your site’s admin dashboard are three completely different accounts, with no intrinsic connection between them.
