website cost

I sent a message but didn’t hear back. This is regarding the possibility of creating a new website. My impression was the 1st year was free. What are the cost the 2nd year. Also, when I was filling out the info it wants to bill me $300 NOW… I thought it was $25/month and why are you billing me now if the 1st year is free??? I am totallllly confused and in over my head.

Hello!
Though pricing is presented more prominently as a cost/month, all the WordPress.com plans bill annually.
For the paid plans, a variety of additional cost services pertaining to domains are free for the first year. After the first year, those services are also billed annually, in addition to the annual billing for WordPress.com hosting service.
There is also a Free plan–with somewhat limited features and capabilities–but 100% free forever.
Here is a link that compares features and pricing for all WordPress.com plans:

Hi there,
@drizzleblocks is correct – currently, we do not have a monthly subscription option for our upgrades, only a yearly option. You can find out more information regarding our plans here:
Also, what is free for the first year is the domain credit you receive when you purchase a paid plan. The price of the domain is included in the cost for the first year and then is in addition to the plan after that.
So, if you purchase the personal plan, for example, the first year the charge would be $48, but the second year would be $48 for the plan + $18 for the domain.
