Website crashing

Is anyone else having a problem with the WordPress site crashing all the time? Mine will almost always crash at least a dozen times when I’m writing a post and I will get a message saying there was a problem with the website, so it had to be reloaded. It will also crash frequently when I’m trying to link something in a post to a previous post (last night it took me about eight tries to get it to link without crashing). I use an iPad as my writing device. I am not having this problem on any other websites I visit.

Should I try writing with the app instead? I just don’t know how to use the app at all. I don’t even know how to manually save something in the app and I don’t want to lose my work.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am as well! I can’t get into my dashboard, can’t edit my pages…it’s frustrating to say the least…

  • Hi @ribbonrx and @kiwi1o1, can you try again now and let me know whether you’re still having trouble?

Unfortunately it’s still crashing. It won’t load my full list of posts either.

  • Can you go ahead and try once more now @ribbonrx ? We are trying to adjust some settings on this end to see if it will help.

Also, if you go to a different browser, do you have the same trouble?

Oh, and if there are any details in the crash report that you can send, we would appreciate those.

It seems to be a problem with Safari, which is the default browser on my iPad. I opened it in my Google app and did some linking and posting and didn’t have any problems. All it says when it crashes in Safari is “There was a problem with the website and it needed to be reloaded.” Sometimes it will do it several times in a row before it will finally load the page. If it has to try to reload more than four times, it will completely crash and I have to go all the way back in from a new tab. It recently was happening when I was toggling back and forth between my blog posts tab and my stats tab.
Thanks so much for looking into this, I really appreciate it!

  • Thanks @ribbonrx. Are you able to display any technical details when it crashes? That could be very helpful.

Also, since you’re on an iPad, you might like using our app instead.

Unfortunately, the only message that pops up is a bar at the top of the screen that says, “A problem occurred with this website so it was reloaded.” I tried to work again using Safari when I was having problems with it not saving my work when using the web version in the Google app this evening and it continually crashed whenever I tried to insert a picture. It would crash four times in a row and then completely shut down the webpage, so I’d have to go back in from scratch.

I may be interested in using the app, but I’m not completely sure how it functions. For example, in the bar where you can select things like bold font, etc, it seems much more limited than in the web version and I can’t figure out how to get more options (such as inserting a “read more” bar.) Are there any tutorials on using the app?

  • Thanks @ribbonrx. Can we have you try clearing the local database? According to this page, here’s how:

Go to Settings>Safari>Databases>Tap edit – tap the database -tap the red vertical line – tap delete. The databases will return when you visit the site again.

Unfortunately, since that article is 5 years old, the settings look different. I can go to Settings>Safari, but then there is nothing that says databases. I don’t know enough about iPads to know how to clear the database otherwise.😩

  • Does this one help? It’s a bit newer:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/34808474/clear-localstorage-on-ios-safari

“To clear other stored information from Safari, tap Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data > Remove All Website Data.”

Or if you want to delete it for a specific site: You can either slide the entry to left and delete it or you can press edit in the top left and delete what you have to.

So far it seems to be working! I haven’t done much yet, but it hasn’t crashed when I’ve toggled back and forth between stats and blog posts, which it had been crashing routinely on. When I work on my next blog post, I will keep you posted if anything crashes. Thank you!!! 😊

  • Thank you @ribbonrx! I wish we knew what caused this, but I’m glad clearing the cache has taken care of it.

If you see any issues at all, please get in touch. :)
