Website defaced – VaultPress Backup question
-
Hi,
my website has been defaced and I am trying to restore it but my hosting provider has no backup.
I am thinking about subscribing to Jetpack VaultPress Backup. Can I access backup data before the activation of VaultPress Backup?
Thank you in advanceThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

Hi there,
Apologies, but we can’t help with your issue directly because we don’t host your site on our WordPress.com managed hosting.
To explain, we are a fully managed hosting provider and use a custom server environment that is optimized for WordPress, provides built-in security and performance improvements, as well as in-house support for your site questions.
Because of the way we’ve optimized our service, we also use a customized version of WordPress that is different (under the hood) from what you use at your current provider. As a result we are not able to offer backups and historical data for sites hosted elsewhere. Of course, we would love to host your site here, where we we are happy to help further. But as it stands now, we can’t assist.
Backups would only be able to take snapshots of your site from the date they are first activated, but they would not allow you to access previous states. Sadly if your host is not able to help with backups there are not many other options I can suggest. One thing you can try is to look up your site on the internet archive and see if they have any snapshots of the site as it was. There are only snapshots (and not a true backup) but it would allow you to copy and paste some of your page text and images so you do not have to start over from scratch.
If you’re looking to get started with a host that offers incremental and fully redundant backups (that you can easily access yourself from the dashboard) we would love to have you. We can’t help for this issue, but you would definitely be covered going forward!
Let us know if you need further assistance or if you have any questions.
