  I would like a professional to design my site and wordpress to host it. I would like to be able to edit and update it myself. Is that possible?

  Yes. It is possible. You can create post, pages and upload photos, videos etc through your wordpress website.

  @marilynwedge – WordPress comes in 2 flavors: the fully hosted WordPressdotcom (where we are ) and the open source WordPress (org) project at https://wordpress.org This support guide explains some of the differences between them: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ and may assist you in making an informed decision on which flavor best suits your website needs. Either flavor will allow you to build a site and update it yourself. Have a read of that guide and come back to us here with any questions you may have.
