Website does not appear on google

Can anyone help me make my site appear on the first page of search results when i enter certain keywords? (adult, jewish Learning, Cape Town)
I have “make site discoverable by search engines” ticked.

All the advice I’ve researched states that I need to create blog content. My site is not a blog and we don’t want it to be one. Is there any other way achieve this?
    Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi again- For those exact search terms “adult, jewish Learning, Cape Town” the current top result is http://www.meltonschool.org/worldwide/203-cape-town If you are the same organization, you are essentially competing against yourself in search engine returns by having two different websites. If yours is a branch of that organization, there should be a link to meltoncapetown.org on that site.

The age of a site also has an influence in search engine returns.

As far as being page-based, yes, it is a slight disadvantage because search engines like dynamic content and static pages are not. WPcom will ping search engines when you publish a new page, but you should absolutely use the posts page on your site as a news feed of upcoming events. Your search engine returns will thank you for it.

    Thanks JJ.
We are affiliated to meltonschool.org but wanted our own unique Cape Town & South african identity… There will be a link to our site on the international site but it will be buried in a page that most people wont go to.
Can I use a posts page on my home page, where would this be or shall i create use the upcoming events widget and then link to the post page?Thx

There will be a link to our site on the international site but it will be buried in a page that most people wont go to.

Maybe, but right now that specific page on the Melton School general website is the top result in Google for those 3 keywords. Anyone looking for those keywords will end up on that page, so get your site link on that page! :)

You don’t have to replace the static page you have now with the posts page. You can add it as “News” or “Updates.”

If you are using a Custom Menu (I seem to recall you are?) the Posts Page doesn’t even need to appear in the menu bar. You can simply add the Recent Posts widget (renamed News or Updates or whatever you want) to your site sidebar and people can read the full post by clicking on the post title there. Make those Post titles memorable. https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/recent-posts-widget/

The Upcoming Events widget won’t do the job for you. It will only show events from a Google calendar. https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/upcoming-events/
