Website doesn’t exist

PLEASE FIX MY URL!!!! The correct URL is railpollutionprotectionpittsburgh.org

However, when you type that address in a new window, you get this error message:
railpollutionprotectionpittsburgh.wordpress.com doesn’t exist. Do you want to register railpollutionprotectionpittsburgh.wordpress.com?

I’m sure this is related to a problem I reported to you earlier. Originally, my site was set up with this incorrect URL: https://railpollutionpreventionpittsburgh.wordpress.com/ (it’s easy to confuse ‘prevention’ with ‘protection’) I thought WordPress support had fixed this, but people are reporting that they can’t reach my site. Please get rid of all references to the URL that refers to the Prevention address and replace them all with the Protection one. Quickly! People can’t find my site, and I just sent out a huge email blast directing them to it!

  • Hi there!

This happens because railpollutionprotectionpittsburgh.org was mapped to your WordPress.com site and it’s still using our nameservers. To stop the redirection, please change the nameservers directly at your registrar. If you’d like to point the domain to another WordPress.com site, you’ll want to map it as explained here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.

I spoke with Pair Domains, who is my registrar. They confirmed that everything is correct on their end. They said the nameserver answers for both the Prevention and the Protection URLs. Each have different IP addresses, too. They said that WordPress is not associating calls for my site when they come in to where my site actually is, and that a nameserver change won’t fix that. They suggested that wordpress either:
    1. fix my account to point to my correct Protection site
    2. change the nameservers if you’d given me new ones
    3. fix the DNS since it’s pointing to them

I’m not very familiar with these inner workings, so I’m at a loss as to what this all means or how to fix it. I can put you in touch with the Pair support guy who was helping me if that would help you. I’m afraid I can’t be much help. Meantime, I’m dead in the water. Thanks.

  • Howdy –

I’ve had a look and can see that the domain is registered through Pair and the current name servers still point to us here at WordPress.com.

The mapping has been cancelled from your account. Now, you just need Pair to update the DNS and point the domain to your new provider. This happens from Pair’s side of things, not ours. Because they are the domain registrar and access to the DNS records comes from them.

This is not an issue with the nameservers. I followed your instructions “Attaching your domain to your WordPress.com site” and it seems to have worked. railpollutionprotectionpittsburgh.org now comes up correctly.

However, why did I have to pay for a premium package in order to fix this problem? I don’t need a premium package. I just need one website:
railpollutionprotectionpittsburgh.org. The site was named incorrectly within the WordPress installation. The current name of Prevention needs to be updated to the correct name of Protection. Please fix in your database, or your config file. Also any references that point to railpollutionpreventionpittsburgh.wordpress.com need to be fixed, too. The URLs need to be updated within the WordPress installation. And please refund the $102.72 you just charged me. Thanks.

And to follow up on your comment, “Now, you just need Pair to update the DNS and point the domain to your new provider.” I don’t have a ‘new’ domain provider. I’m staying with Pair. The fix needs to happen on your end, not theirs.
