Website domain stuck in limbo – cannot renew and/or transfer

    Hi there,

    Similar to the issue in this thread: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/transferring-an-expired-domain-1/

    My domain name expired a few days ago and didn’t renew. I’m now hoping to transfer the domain name away from WordPress to another registrar, but can neither renew the domain to try and achieve this, nor select an option to transfer/obtain an authorisation code.

    Can staff/admin please assist?

    Hi there,

    From what I see the domain is not registered here, but instead connected via “domain mapping” which is a way to use a custom address on WordPress.com for a domain you have with another provider.

    Based on what I see in the public WHOIS info for lauraxtan.com, it is registered with Google Domains as you can see here: https://gwhois.org/lauraxtan.com+dns

    To transfer your domain to a different registrar you will need to reach out to Google Domains directly as we do not have a transfer option for “mapped domains” such as yours.

    Thanks heaps – it turned out to be a different email under Google Domains that was required to process payment, so all sorted now. Since I used WordPress to do the initial purchase I assumed it was something on the WordPress end.
