website/domain transfer

I have a website that I like, but the program I used to design it no longer exists. As a result, I can no longer make changes to it. Before I transfer my domain name to WordPress, I’d like to see if I like the web design components on WordPress. How do I continue to design my site without transferring my domain name?

This is a great question. And, the short answer, is yes, you can do this.

My suggestion would be to get set up on a free site to start. This way there’s no cost to you for trying us out. Click on My Sites – + Add New Site from the dashboard when you sign in at WordPress.com. Register a free site address there.

The site will be hidden, and private by default. This will prevent any SEO conflicts with your current one that’s active and online.

Take a look at these learning materials too. They’ll help you get more familiarized with things here.

If you decide that you’d like to proceed with WordPress.com then you’ll add a plan to the account. This will allow you to connect the domain.

Plans are listed at https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and you can see the features, costs, etc… there. They include your hosting and access to our support team as well.

After the plan has been added you can connect the domain. There’s 2 options for that.

    1. Mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
    2. Transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/

This is a lot of information. Give it a read and write back here with any follow up questions. We will be nearby to provide additional help.
