Website Expired & I Don't Have Access to Old Email
-
My website expired and I don’t have the email to renew it working any more. I’m happy to get a new one… no problem, but I’d rather get the old one back if I can.

When a domain expires, it then goes through a process that can take several months to complete described at https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-expiration/.
If you are in the grace period you will not have to agree to pay a redemption fee set by the domain name registrar that wordpress.COM staff cannot waive.
Otherwise, if you want Staff to try to recover the domain for you then you will have to agree to pay the redemption fee.
If you’re logged into the account that is associated with your expired domain, they will look up its status and get in touch with details.
If you are not logged in under the correct username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies prior to logging into the associated account, and provide the domain URL here.

@cormaclev your domain expired already, but I’ll work on getting it back so it doesn’t go into redemption. We also need to work on getting you access to the correct account.
Can you look for a transaction ID on a previous payment? If you can find that, let me know here and I’ll email so you can send it to me safely. Do not post the transaction ID publicly.
Here’s how to find it:

The problem is that the owner of the original website passed away in the last year. I took over the group (that’s related to the website) when he first got sick, but we didn’t transfer this information. I’d like to reactivate the website, if that’s possible. If not, I’m happy to just start a new one.

@cormaclev I’ve prevented your domain from going into redemption for now.
If you can get a transaction ID (if this was paid with a business card, for example) we can get you in.

being an admin on the site and trying to transfer it to another method of payment now that it’s been expired for a month won’t do? I don’t have access to any of the information about how the website was originally paid for. The person who originally paid for the website, as I mentioned, is no longer with us.

@cormaclev We have an account recovery process for deceased users as well, but I believe the transaction ID would be much easier to get.
I took a look at the domain and it is (thankfully) not in redemption yet. So I think we’ll go ahead and reactivate it, then sort out the account issues so you won’t lose the domain.
