Website Hacked
-
We are getting registrations on our event registration form for two days that are not real registrations. We also had the contact us form with weird contact information. The notification email shows it coming from our known Gmail email for a project we had that we haven’t sent.
What should be done to prevent this from continuing?

What website is this happening on?
Keep in mind that if the site isn’t hosted on WordPress.com servers, then the forums at https://wordpress.org/support will be better for this question. If you use a plugin for that form, the plugin’s support is best.
Here’s a bit about the differences- https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

It’s not only the form on the Registration plugin because the hack affected my contact form, which is a different plugin. I’m not a self-hosted site, so it’s my understanding that with the Business Plan we have technical support. Looking at other’s recent posting, it looks like I’m not the only one that got hacked. Can you please advise?
Thanks. -
Apologies for somehow missing the site address! Not sure what I was thinking last night. Are you able to reach live chat support? With your Business plan, you can reach out to Happiness Engineers for help instead of the forums.
It looks like your site has Contact Form 7 installed. You might activate some spam prevention measures on the forms enabled by the plugin. I would suggest turning on Akismet for the forms to cut back on fraudulent form completions. reCAPTCHA is another option, it seems.
