Website Has Disappeared

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’ve recently been left in charge of this account and one of the first steps is to find out why our WordPress website (ayia.ie) has disappeared. The last person to be in charge of the site doesn’t know what happened. Would anyone know why the site has disappeared or what steps to take to get it back?

    Here’s a link to what the site looked like: AYIA Web Archive

    Hello @ayiacommittee,

    After doing a DNS history search, it appears the domain is set to the following nameservers:

    Nserver: ns1.siteground171.com
    Nserver: ns2.siteground171.com

    Based on the Web Archive image of the site, the theme (Zerif Lite) is a free theme developed by a 3rd party, which leads me to believe your site was self-hosted rather than hosted here on WordPress.com . You can learn more about the differences between WordPress.com vs WordPress.org here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    I would start by reaching out to Siteground to inquire about the domain. And if they were your host, they may be able to recover the website. It will depend how long the site has been down.

    I’ve tagged your post with ‘modlook’ to double check your account to determine if this domain was ever connected with your account here on WordPress.com.

    Hopefully this info is helpful. Best of luck–

  • Thank you @charleybea!

    @ayiacommittee
    I can confirm this domain wasn’t hosted here, AND that the domain settings seem to be off kilter (it’s not returning any responses for IPs and what not.)

    Please do reach out to SiteGround. Good luck!

    Thanks for your responses! I’ve contacted SiteGround and they confirmed that the site is meant to load from them, but that the account associated with the site has been suspended for a while. I do have the name of that account holder so I hopefully I can get in contact with them and sort things!
