  I currenlty pay a small fee to host my website and was looking for a cheaper options to create a website. Not sure whether to transfer my domain name, thought WordPress was free.

  You can create a free site here with an address that ends in .wordpress.com or .home.blog or similar. However if you wish to map or transfer a domain you already own to a WordPress.com site then you’ll need to purchase a Personal plan or higher: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
