Website is currently hosted through WORDPRESS, but I want it hosted through HOSTGATOR.com. How do I

  I recently signed up through hostgator.com to have my site hosted there, but it appears that my website (thelotspot.com) is currently setup at hosted via wordpress.

  I purchased the hosting package at hostgator so that I could use/upload my own THEME, so hoping someone can assist with next steps here.

  Hi sgerten,

  First of all, make sure you get a complete backup of all files and database. I don’t know if you have the knowledge of how to do this.
  1. Login by FTP and copy all the files to your local system. Don’t touch this files, so keep them safe.
  2. Get access to your WP database and export (backup) the contents of it and place the export file safe on your local system
  3. Create a new database on your new hosting location and import the earlier exported data (from the database). This can be done directly in i.e. CPanel or other control panel or directly in PHPMyAdmin
  4. Upload the earlier downloaded files through ftp to your new hosting
  5. Edit the file wp-config.php in the root of the WP installation location to your needs. (database name, location (most of the times ‘localhost’) and database username)

  Then you should be up and running :)

  Hi,

  I stumbled on this thread as I am experiencing the same problem, but I don’t think Hielkio’s solution will work for what I am experiencing.

  I have a Domain with WordPress.com -> I wish to transfer it to HostPapa (not concerned with the content of the site just the domain name as I am going to restart with a custom Theme ie WordPress.org on Hostpapa). I have going into WordPress.com and hit the “Transfer Domain” function for my code, and also into “Name Servers and DNS” and changed the names there to the ones provided by HostPapa. Also I have changed my primary domain away form my desired domain (in case that was causing the issue – I have 3 domains with WordPress.com) but cannot seem to transfer it still.

  In Hostpapa I have done to their “Transfer my Domain” function but I keep getting “Sorry, http://www.domainname.com is the primary domain of anotehr account and cannot be re-signed up with the account is active”.

  Help!
