Website is GONE!
-
I’ve had a website up for five years. I recently asked someone to direct the URL to a new site. Today is the first time I tried to log into the WordPress account and it says I don’t have a website. Anyone have a similar experience who might know what happened? This isn’t my area of expertise and I’m pretty much lost.

Hi Deeatra,
The domain http://www.lifeofhopeproject.org isn’t registered at WordPress.com, nor is it pointing at a site hosted here. You can verify that by looking at the whois here: https://www.whois.com/whois/lifeofhopeproject.org
This means it’s a self-hosted version of WordPress, sometimes called WordPress.org.
Here at WordPress.com, we support your site, and we take care of all the updates, the backups, and the security.
A WordPress.org site is when you find your own host and install the WordPress software there. You are then virtually unlimited in what you can with your site, but you are also responsible for taking care of updates, backups and security. In case something breaks, you have to figure out how to fix it (luckily, WordPress.org has a great support forum with many knowledgeable and helpful volunteers).
There’s a great side by side comparison of the two right here:
I’d recommend reaching out to GoDaddy – they are both your domain’s registrar and your site’s host.
You can get in touch with them here:
