Website is stuck in maintenance mode, used WP Maintenance Mode plugin

  I deactivated maintenance mode this morning. My Under Construction page is still showing though and I seem to be stuck that way. There are several really helpful articles about how to unstick it. Most of them recommend deleting the .maintenance file from my public_html file. However, I don’t have one of those (show hidden files is active, I can see other ‘dot’ files in the structure). The other advice was to deactivate the offending plugin and clear my browser’s cache. No luck there either. Another piece of advice was to manually create a .maintenance file and then delete. Nope…didn’t seem all that logical to me, but it didn’t work either. I deleted the plugin completely from WP (and verified the files were gone from wp-content/plugins and still no joy. I’m wondering if the server has it cached, but I don’t see any way on my Bluehost cpanel to even check for that. Help? Suggestions? Thank you!!!!

  Okay. So I reinstalled WP Maintenance Mode and under the general tab for it, I “reset all settings” and my website popped back up. Two aspirins and a glass of wine for me.

  Sounds like you’re talking about a self-hosted WordPress site…and we just deal with sites hosted on wordpress.com here.

  I’m on WordPress.com. I’m hosted on Bluehost.

  And my website is back to being stuck in maintenance mode again without my doing anything.

  and now it’s back online. I’m going crazy, that’s the only explanation….

  If the site we’re talking about is thezenintrovert.com, the checks I’ve made show that your domain name is operating through BlueHost…and the fact that you’re talking about the BllueHost cpanel tells me the same thing. I’m guessing that you’re running a self-hosted WordPress site…and you are not being hosted here on WordPress.com…your site is hosted at BlueHost…in which case you really will have better results if you ask your question(s) at https://wordpress.org/support/

  Got it. Thanks. Makes sense since the plugin came from there.
