Website layout wont Display correctly

Hey you guys and gals, I had a question. I cant seem to understand why my website theme wont display correctly as it used to, but no longer does. Strange enough, this problem only arises on the main page but when you actually go within any of the blog topics or page tabs, the theme displays correctly. What I mean by that is that none of the links and widget places I have on the left hand side appear on the left section. They appear at the bottom of the page, under all the blog posts where the minute you actually click on a blog and read it, you see that on the left hand side, the given links to appear.

Ive tried to switch the theme and go back to it and same error occurs.

    my website is sonyrumors.net

So any help would be much appreciated.

This usually happens because either your content or a text widget in your sidebar contains an image or video that is too wide. If it can’t fit in its allotted space, it pushes the sidebar to the bottom to make room.

This lists the maximum widths for images in most themes:

How big can my images be?

and that very much makes sense but the issue is, this error only occurs on the main page and not on the individual blogs and so the theme throughout the website is the same.

For example, the picture that they view on the main page for a blog post is the same picture that they will see once they actually click on that blog and read further into it. The dimensions do not change.

  • There was an empty <div> around this post http://sonyrumors.net/2008/01/20/psp-to-jack-in/ . When using the Read More option, this cuts off the </div> because it was after the Read More link and causes the layout to break.

Thank you very much for that info mtdewvirus. Im still a little confused by it (as im fairly new to this) so how can I go forward and prevent that from happening? Am I doing something wrong or should I be doing something different?

It’s probably nothing you did. WordPress.com has a strange intermittent bug that changes existing P tags into Div tags sometimes, and when you also have the Read more tag in there, the Divs often get split up like that and it causes this problem. I don’t think you could do anything to prevent it, but if you see a problem like that in future you can just check in the Code view and check that your Div tags are closed before the More tag.

hhmm…cause I just made one new post on my site (and some how the issue was fixed, if a Mod made the change, ty much) but like i was saying, it was showing my site correctly and now, the same issue is back again. None of my widgets on the left hand side are showing up correctly.

I went and looked in my new post and again, I dont know “code” but I know how to browse through it and I checked to see for every “<div>” that there was a “</div>” so I dunno where the problem is coming from now….

I recall thesacredpath posting that hitting ‘enter’ before using the more tag prevents some glitch. This might be it. I always use a space for aesthetics and have not had this problem.

The <div> and the </div> have to be on the SAME side of the <more>. That’s the key thing. If you do as ella suggests and put an extra space before the More, that should theoretically prevent this from happening.
