Website link/social media edits help (please)
-
morning all, sorry if this has been asked before. I’m trying to remove the “recent posts” link & social media/app links as pictured” from my PC/iPhone, the latter of which I use WordPress’s Jetpack app.
I’ve tried doing so with no avail, despite getting tips off “AI” and YouTube videos? Any help appreciated. Site still needs lots of tweaking.
also,,,,, how can I get my drop down menu to show as individual links for rack page as opposed to having to click the “3 lined bar icon on the top left of the page” so people can view/select which page?
thanks in advance….

Hi Rob,
You’re definitely not alone, those “Recent Posts” and social/app links often come from the theme’s default widgets or footer/header settings. A few things you can try:
- Remove “Recent Posts” & Social Links
- In your dashboard, go to Appearance → Widgets (or Customizer → Widgets if your theme uses the Customizer).
- Look for any Sidebar, Footer, or Header widget areas that contain “Recent Posts” or Social Links. Remove them there.
- If you don’t see them in widgets, they may be hard-coded into your theme. In that case, check your theme’s Customizer → Theme Options for toggles.
- Dropdown Menu vs. “Hamburger Icon”
- The three-line menu (hamburger) appears because your theme is mobile-responsive on smaller screens it hides the full menu.
- If you want your menu to always display links individually (instead of behind the icon), you’ll need to either:
- Switch to a theme that supports a visible menu on mobile, or
- Customize the CSS to override the responsive menu. (Example: forcing the menu to stay expanded on all screen sizes).
Since you’re using the Jetpack app + WordPress.com, you may find it easier to tweak in a desktop browser: Appearance → Customize → Menus will give you the clearest control.
If you’re still stuck, it might be your specific theme’s limitation, in which case switching to a different free theme (like Twenty Twenty-Four or Twenty Twenty-Five) could give you more flexibility.
Hope that helps you clean things up a bit.

many thanks for the help. I just found that by changing the page theme the end worked.
I shall probably upgrade to a paid theme. Anyhow shortly, just so we can make the site look a little more professional.

Hey Rob,
Yeah I had the same headache when I started messing with my WP site. What finally worked for me:
- For the recent posts/social links, open Appearance → Widgets in the dashboard (not Jetpack). Check your sidebar or footer and just delete the “Recent Posts” widget or any Social Icons widget sitting there. If you don’t see them, jump into Appearance → Customize → Widgets or your theme settings—some themes sneak those in by default, so you gotta toggle them off there.
- About the dropdown menu—go to Appearance → Menus, make sure your menu is set as the Primary (or Desktop) menu. Then in Customize → Menus, look for the display settings. Some themes always use that hamburger icon on desktop, so either switch the menu style there or maybe pick a different theme if it won’t let you.
It didn’t show up right away for me either, had to save and refresh a couple times (Jetpack caching maybe?). But after that it stuck. Hope this saves you a bit of frustration.

Hi Michael, thanks for the detailed reply. I will certainly give it a go in the morning and need to update the site little bit.
Basically , when our last site was compromised, we put this up as a temporary alternative, but as WordPress is in general, so easy to use that the paid business subscription instead is looking quite attractive
