website links?

    Hello,
I’d like to create four/five headings with images that are clickable to take the reader to the text about each of these.
Using: Presentation Interview Technique International Speakers Academic
    Creative Workshops.

Click on the image/Presentation which takes you to the text.
Can it also all be on one page as you scroll down, so if reading on a phone or tablet.
    Thanks for your help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

The part of your website that will determine this kind of layout dynamic is the “theme” of your site. You change the theme by going to “Appearance” from your dashboard. I did a quick look through the themes and here are some that look like they might fit your description:

    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/gazette/

    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/cubic/

    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/hermes/

    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/espied/

But you can look through all the themes here:

    Hope this helps!

    Kind regards,
    Jason

    Hi there Jason,

I really appreciate your help, thanks! Yes, I can see that these themes will work well. I chose Baskerville, because as you say it has the different boxes on the front page. However, I have created 6 different pages, and they are not showing up on the front page..I need to work out, how I use the front page images, to click into the further details..
More searching on the tutorials I think!
    Thanks so much again,
    Emma

    @ emlouiseds,
    Hi,

I chose Baskerville, because as you say it has the different boxes on the front page.

You can’t use the Baskerville theme on a WordPress.com website. Which website are you referring to? Is it a WordPress.com site, or a self-hosted WordPress.org site? Your primary site, https://emlouiseds.wordpress.com/, is over four years old and has only the default “Hello World!” post and “About” page published.

    Gosh, now I’m confused!
http://emlouiseds.wordpress.com was registered 4 years ago, but in the last week, I’ve tried to start building a new website currently called Shell-like, and yes, it does have the baskerville theme, or I thought it did?
Perhaps I’m not properly logged in, and need to re-register and start again on wordpress.com 2015?!

Thanks very much for your help. Is there a tutorial that you could recommend that takes you through all the steps, I’m finding it complicated!

What’s the website address? This forum is solely for issues regarding WordPress.com accounts and website. There are separate forums for WordPress.org sites, here: https://wordpress.org/support/.

Is this the site: http://www.shelllike.com/? If so, it’s hosted by Castle Access. If it’s a WordPress.org site, then please resubmit your request to the WordPress.org support forums. You can register to use the WP.org support forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/register.php.

    Hi Emma,

Don’t be confused! Baskerville is available on WordPress.com. (It was recently added.)

Like anything new, you can feel a bit lost at first, just think of WordPress like a big mansion with lots of rooms. At first it will feel overwhelming trying to find your way but once you’ve been in it a few days it feels like home.

Baskerville’s front page displays several recent posts, not pages. So you’ll need to create some test posts for it to fill up.

Here is what you need to do:

    1. Create the posts as you would the pages with the content, pictures, etc that you want on them.
    2. In the “Posts” page in classic view (“WP Admin”), hover over the post you want to ensure stays on your front page, select “Quick Edit” for the page and check the box on the right column near the bottom that says “make this post sticky”. This will make sure that that post is always on the front page.
    3. Go to “Settings” -> “Reading” and make sure that you have the front page selected to be “Your latest posts”

These directions might be a bit broad so if you need more detail or have questions just let us know.

    Kind regards,
    Jason

Also if you want your username to reflect your new website you can do the following:

    1. Click on your little circular picture in the top right corner.
    2. On the left menu select “Account Settings”
    3. Change the web address to whatever your new site or whatever you want.

    Hope this helps!

Sorry guys. I’d done a Google search for Baskerville, and found only .org results. Should have checked the WordPress.com Theme Showcase.

    Hi both,

Don’t worry, I’m glad I’m not in the wrong site at least!
I’m going to try to tidy up my login, so I only have one website/name.
Thanks so much Jason, really helpful. How do you delete old half made websites?

    Hi Jason,
I’m hoping to create a permalink to add a word onto the end of my default setting to get more hits online…do I need to upgrade to premium for that. I can’t see perma links in my settings?

    Many thanks again,
I’m using the WordPress Walk through series, is that a good idea?!

    Good evening!

to add a word onto the end of my default setting

Can you tell me a bit more about what you are referring to? I’m not sure exactly what you mean.

    Kind regards,
    Jason

    Hi Jason,

    Thanks for your message.
Sorry, I’m slightly in the dark with all this. What I mean, is in order to raise the number of hits on your website, To increase ‘feeds?’ I watched a video that said you add ‘presentation’ or ‘clarity’ lets say onto the end of the link so it feed out into the internet to get more online presence.
I watch a video that said this was through using a perma link. Not sure if that’s right or not?

    Thanks Jason!

    Good morning!

Hmm… This may just be referring to something I’m not aware of. (I still have a lot to learn myself :) If you want the send the video link over, if you have it, I’ll watch it and see if I can get a better idea of what they are referring to and if it’s possible with WordPress.

Otherwise, the only idea I have that they might be referring to would be to increase your web presence by being linked from other websites. Search engines use things call crawlers that visit one web page then click on all the links on that page, then visit those pages and all their links, ad infinity! So the more pages that link to your site (in theory) the higher your website will rank and the more traffic you’ll get on it.

Also, this article from WordPress provides some helpful tips on growing your community: https://learn.wordpress.com/get-connected-3/

Let me know if you have any questions on this or if that’s not what you were looking for.

    Kind regards,
    Jason
