Website Lost

    Hi, can anyone help?

I took over the website development of a site someone else created and carried on used the log in details she’d supplied to my employer. Then created my own user account.

The developer was using a temporary domain through go-daddy.

I’ve been using it for months and now suddenly I have no access to it.

I’ve contacted go-daddy and they’ve said I need to contact the owner (the original developer) unfortunately I’ve call her, it cuts out after one ring. I’ve emailed and the address cannot be found. I’ve looked her company on the web and the domains are no longer active.

I’m afraid I’ve lost all my hard work. This was the first site I’ve built and I’ve put a lot of hours into it.

Any help you can give in how to retrieve it, would be very much appreciated.

Until then I’ll keeping crying over my keyboard mwah….

    Hi encarnado71,

Using GoDaddy as a host means the site was created with WordPress.org software (rather than WordPress.com):

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

We don’t have any access to or control over sites hosted on other servers so I’m afraid we are unable to help you access the developer account — WordPress.com and WordPress.org are also separate entities. It be worth trying to contact the developer through other channels like social media or LinkedIn.

I’m afraid I’ve lost all my hard work.

If you have no luck contacting the developer, you could try searching for the site address on Google in case there are any cached posts or pages there (indicated by a green down arrow next to the link). They could be manually copied somewhere else as a backup.
