Website Lost After Domain Switch

    Hello,

    I help manage a WordPress site for an organization. We recently decided to upgrade our services to an alternate platform. We created a new website via a different platform than WordPress and moved the existing domain we had attached to the WordPress site to the new website.

    Since the domain was attached to the new website, I cannot seem to find the previous WordPress site, which the organization was hoping to hold on to in the transition period. I had thought that after switching the domain, our WordPress site would still be accessible through our admin area, but it seems to be gone. The domain does still show under “my sites,” but it now takes me to our new website, which is not connected to WordPress at all.

    Is there any advice, troubleshooting, or explanation anyone could offer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

    Just to check – can you tell me if the site was originally created on WordPress.com and not with self-hosted WordPress (GoDaddy, Bluehost…etc) – the reason being is that no sites created on WordPress.com redirect to armatoronto.on.ca – so I suspect that the installation could be elsewhere.

    I hope this helps thus far.

    The website was quite old – I’m not sure of all the details of its creation. From what I understand, I believe it was created on WordPress and hosted on Bluehost.

    Hi there,

    I checked the historical DNS records for that domain and for the last six years it was pointing to a site hosted by Bluehost. Therefore you need to reach out to them for any help regarding the old site.

    @armato, I just wanted to add, too, Bluehost may be able to help you with this so you can point the site to a temporary address:
    https://wordpress.org/support/article/changing-the-site-url/
