Website Migration of a Multisite Subsite
-
I work for a denominational office that represents approximately 450 churches. We have offered web hosting for the last 15 years but are in the process of shutting that service down. We are working with churches who have websites hosted with us on migrating their sites to other hosting platforms.
One of those churches is migrating their hosting to WordPress.com. We currently run Multisite for all the church websites we host. Is there an alternative method besides MigrateGuru available so that we can migrate this site over to WordPress.com hosting?
Thank you for your help!

Hi there! Yes, for migrating a single network site from a multisite there are a couple of options we commonly use as Migrate Guru will copy the entire multisite:
- Manually restore the network site’s uploads, plugins, theme, etc. into wp-content via SSH/SFTP. Manually restore the network site’s tables via cli/SSH or phpMyAdmin – the tables should be prefixed with the site’s ID. Update wp-config.php accordingly for the table prefix.
- Use All-in-One WP Migration with their paid Multisite add-on: https://servmask.com/products/multisite-extension
If you are not familiar with either method of migrating a single network site, we are currently offering free migrations for a limited amount of time and can perform the migration for you. You can fill out this form and our migrations team will follow-up with you: https://wordpress.com/support/request-a-free-migration/
