Website No Longer Exists. I was just on it earlier this week.
-
I have two website urls with active and registered domain names. They are 1) matthewmullerneworleans.com and 2) mattmullerneworleans.com
I visited both of these sites earlier this week and they were working just fine. However, they are no longer there, even though the domain names are live. Even worse, when I logged into WordPress, it shows no record or existing websites that were created. How do I even begin to solve this?
-
Hi! Both of the domains you mentioned are hosted at GoDaddy. You were probably using the free WordPress software rather than our service:
https://wordpress.com/go/website-building/wordpress-com-vs-wordpress-org/I can’t load up the sites at all, which typically indicates a problem with hosting or the domain rather than with the WordPress software itself. Maybe even something as simple as you needing to verify the domain contact info.
Can you get in touch with GoDaddy’s support to see if they can help you?
Then going forward, here are the forums for the free WordPress code:
https://wordpress.org/support/forums/This forum is for the sites that use our free tier hosting. Let us know if you have any questions about any of our services, though; we’d be glad to assist.

I contacted GoDaddy and they stated that the issue was not on their end but with WordPress instead. No really sure what to do now at this point.

To avoid confusion, there are three different “WordPress” at play here:
1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.Since your site is not hosted with us, we’re limited in what we can help with and advise.
You need to contact GoDaddy again and insist they look into this as they are hosting your website, regardless of what software you use. Since they’re hosting your site’s files, they also have access to them and are the best ones to help you find and fix this problem. If the person you talk to doesn’t want to help, ask them to escalate you to their supervisor. You’re paying them for your site hosting, so they should provide you with support when there is a problem.
I hope that helps.

This is very helpful, thank you.
One more question: Why am I not able to access my site from my WordPress account? I’m not even able to access my WordPress account at all, which is what led me to think that the issue was with WordPress and not GoDaddy.
But yes, I will contact GoDaddy and press them on this issue further.

Hi there,
To clarify, we are not directly connected to GoDaddy. We are both independent providers of WordPress sites. Because of this, our login system here does not automatically connect to your site and the login system that your self-hosted WordPress site is a little different from what we use and also does not connect.
That is why you don’t see your sites listed under your WordPress.com login with us, and also why you will need to contact GoDaddy for help with this issue.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction!

So I contacted GoDaddy about this issue, but they insisted that the domains are live and, in fact, are not hosted by WordPress at all, which is incredibly off putting and strange since that is where I created the website to begin with.
Any ideas on how we can solve this?https://digital.com/best-web-hosting/who-is/#search=mattmullerneworleans.com

mullernola –
I remember working on these domains with you in a previous thread. Hang tight and let me take a closer look at what’s going on.

Okay, I found that thread from before: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/my-site-no-longer-exits-please-help/
Site 1:
matthewmullerneworleans.com
Registered at: GoDaddy
Hosted at: GoDaddySite 2:
mattmullerneworleans.com
Registered at: GoDaddy
Hosted at: GoDaddyWhen changing DNS records for a domain it can take up to 72 hours for those to fully take effect. I am not able to load either one of the sites in my browser.
Referencing what GoDaddy told you – WordPress in that sense is the open source software that the sites are built with. WordPress is not your hosting provider. WordPress.com (here) is a managed hosting solution for the WordPress software. Since your sites aren’t using WordPress.com hosting we aren’t able to gain any access for further insights or help.
Running a site this way on the open source WordPress software does require that you’re more hands on as things like updates all fall to you. When GoDaddy is telling you there’s a problem with WordPress they are referring to https://wordpress.org/support/forums/ which is where you can get help when things go awry with sites running their own WordPress installation.
There’s something off with the hosting. I hate to point the finger back at GoDaddy but the domains are not working, and they are not associated with WordPress.com in any way.
We can help you move the sites to our system so you don’t have to deal with stuff like this. All of that is handled by our team who takes care of the back end details that keep a site online and performing well. Stuff like updates, security, seo, mobile optimization and so forth. This gives you the ability to focus on the content of the site(s). Write back if you have more questions about how this process would work for your sites.
Good luck.
