Website not working

I have several sites on my WordPress account, and my main one hasn’t been working for months.

When I try and view my site, it comes up with a warning from my internet provider: ‘Warning: You could be getting scammed! Suspected unsafe site. This website could be trying to steal your information, install a virus or gain access to your device.’

(Which I am not, unless someone has hacked my account and added something I haven’t found yet. I’m not a techie so I wouldn’t know how to check that.)

When I click ‘continue anyway’, or try and view the site through the link in my dashboard, it comes up with the following error message:

‘This site can’t provide a secure connection. alexharlequin.wordpress.com uses an unsupported protocol. ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH’

My other sites seem to be working okay, though I haven’t tested each one thoroughly.

  • Sorry to hear it — I’m not seeing that error with https://alexharlequin.wordpress.com/ .

Could you confirm what browser you’re using, and whether you see the same error in another browser?

Actually since posting that, I think the problem is my internet provider (BT). I use Chrome on my laptop, and got the same issue with Safari on my iPad, but when I connected to my mobile phone’s data instead a a few days ago, it worked. That was with O2, but I’m in the process of switching my phone to BT as well, so I’ll see if it still works that way. (I’m having trouble with the SIM card at the moment so might not be able to test for a while.) If the problem is BT, I assume I would have to contact them directly? Do you have advice on how to approach that?

  • Yes, if the issue has been isolated to the IP, I would reach out to them and see what they say. If it does happen again and you have to reach out to them, let us know what they say – this may be an issue with anyone using them as a provider.

    Thanks,
