Website Problem- server configuration?
-
The website for our organization is down. W also run a website for a partner organization. The domain name for the partner organization is listed as a mapped domain under the website that isn’t working. WordPress popped up an error that says that the partner org’s server records should be configured. My supervisor tells me that both sites used to be run by a local internet company called frognet but now the partner organization site is run through godaddy.com. What’s strange is that the partner organization site works if you google the title but the website name is slightly different than the one listed as a mapped domain. I’m very confused. I hope this makes sense.
Thanks!
Selina

Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question. The first thing you need to do here and anywhere online that you post for support is to provide the URL of the site you refer to. Unless or until you do that no one is able to help you.
This is WordPress.COM support. We do not provide support for local installs of WordPress.ORG software, or for WordPress.ORG software installs on paid hosting, linked to WordPress.COM accounts with the Jetpack plugin so they display on the My Sites WordPress.com account page. However, about 30% of those who post here every day are posting to the wrong support forum and require redirection to the correct one.
Please type the actual URL of the site you are referring to into http://whoishostingthis.com to determine who hosts the site so you know where to post for support.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org support
The WordPress.ORG support forum is at http://wordpress.org/support. The WordPress.ORG login link is here https://login.wordpress.org/ If you do not have an account yet then click Create an account https://login.wordpress.org/register/ and if you have lost an account password click Lost password? https://login.wordpress.org/lostpassword/
WordPress.org support docs are at https://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page
See also https://apps.wordpress.org/support/ for app support.Jetpack support
Some Jetpack solutions are here http://jetpack.com/support/
Others are in the Jetpack support forum at WordPress.org
http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/jetpack
However, if help cannot be found at either one then they can file a Jetpack support ticket here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/?jetpack=needs-service -
the website domain that the website usually comes up as is ohiohillcountry.org but i think the domain name is ohioshillcountryheritagearea.wordpress.com.
The domain littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org is mapped the that domain, and I think that’s what’s causing problems. I think I might just want to unmap that .org address if that’s possible because I don’t think it should be attached to that website.
I hope this is the right place to be posting for support given that I followed links from the website I was using to get to this forum.
Sorry I dont understand this stuff. Thanks for your help!

Hi @selinanadeaublog, the domain littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org seems to be having some DNS issues, otherwise it could work with one of your sites. Can you update the DNS settings to point to our servers?
ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com
ns3.wordpress.com -
I’ll do that in the DNS records section. I looked up the IP addresses using that whoownsthis.com link. Will this automatically fix it. There are three website addresses in the DNC records section that say they are handled by wordpress.com. Do I need to “configure” those?
Thanks again.
-
@selinanadeaublog if you have those name servers and no others listed you should be OK. If you need to add other records here, too, you can do that.
Any idea why someone changed the name servers in the first place?
-
Oh, also, once it’s working again (and you’ll want to give it a few hours for your changes to take effect) you will need to head to My Site > Domains and update the primary domain.
You may need to be logged in as the domain owner to do that.
-
The name servers shouldn’t have been changed by anyone. I don’t think anyone was making any changes to the site.
I think what I want to do is transfer the little Cities of black diamonds domain to that site because that domain shouldn’t be directed to the ohios hill country heritage area website. Is that easy to do?
My supervisor is probably obably he domain owner. I am just an administrator on the sites.
Thanks
-
The site is still saying that there is DNS configuration required on ohioshillcountryheritagearea.wordpress.com
There are six different DNS records listed, including 3 I added yesterday to direct the domain to your IP address. Are you able to see those or should I list them? There doesn’t seem to be a way to change or select the three that were there before.
Thanks again fro all your help.

Ahh sorry. Yesterday ohiohillcountry.org was still working for me; now its upgrade is gone because it expired. Can the old upgrade owner log in and add that again?
I was looking at littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org which doesn’t point here at all still.
-
No worries. Thanks for replying! My boss is probably the domain owner and hes on vacation for the next few days. Is there any other way to do it? To add the upgrade do we need to pay for a plan?
Yeah I cant figure littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org out and it seems to be the biggest problem. I added some new name servers I think and posted in the IP addresses for ns1.wordpress.com, ns2., etc. I’m not sure if that was right.
Thanks

Can you contact support for littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org ?
https://www.enom.com/kb/kb/kb_0806-who-is-my-reseller.htmRight now, for me at least, it’s not showing any name servers at all. But once that’s resolved, we should be able to get it working again.

re: this,

It does need a plan. If someone there is able to log in as the boss and add it that would be easiest, otherwise you could buy a plan and we could try to work things out that way.

I think what I would like to do is just remove littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org as a mapped domain for ohioshillcountryheritagearea.wordpress. They’re not the same organization and littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.blog is working fine, so I’m ok with getting rid of the mapping of littlecitiesofblackdiamonds.org. I have the login info for the account which I believe is the domain owner for all of these websites.
Thanks
-
Hi @selinanadeaublog, were you able to log in as the upgrade owner? If you can do that you can get in touch at http://wordpress.com/help/contact and have staff sort this out, or you can update us here while logged into the correct account.
