    i want to make it so that my website is either a) password protected (not just each post, but the entire site), or b) visible only to followers i approve. however, i don’t want friends and family to have to create a wordpress account in order to follow me. if i upgrade to premium, do followers have to create a wordpress account in order to get email notifications whenever i post an update?

    you can’t do what you want to do here – private blogs require each user to have an account – passwords are for each post or page & work until the PW is given to friends or whoever –

    no upgrade here will change any of the above
