Website Set to Private Mode Still Visible Despite WordPress Assurances
-
Hello,
This is Michael A. Ayele sending this message though I now go by W. You may call me W. I am writing this letter in response to your correspondence from October 01st 2022, wherein you stated that you would set an outdated website I had created to private mode. As you are aware, the outdated website that was supposed to be set to private mode is as follows.: https://associationfortheadvancementofcivilliberties.wordpress.com/
As I had previously informed WordPress, I do not want the content of that website to be visible on Internet Search Engines (ISEs) and I was hoping that setting the WordPress website to ‘private mode’ would accomplish this goal. However, I have noticed that the content of that website is still visible and that the website does not link to a private screen. Can you help me resolve this issue? Thanks.

Hi there,
You can make your site private so that only you and the people you’ve invited can access it and view its contents. To do this, go to your site’s General Settings and select the Private option under the Privacy section.

Hello,
Please see below the email sent to me by WordPress on September 28th 2022, which informed me that the website would be linking to a private screen. [redacted for privacy]

As noted (and as you can see) above, a staff of WordPress had informed me on September 28th 2022 that the website I had created on WordPress over 5 years ago would be set to “private mode” and that the site would be linking to a “private screen” and therefore would not be appearing on Internet Search Engines (ISE). Fast forward 4 months later and WordPress still has not set that website to “private” mode despite assurances stating otherwise on September 28th 2022 and then again on a few occasions in October 2022. I’m writing this letter as a follow up to promises that were made by WordPress on September 28th 2022 and then again in October 2022. Can you explain why a site that’s been set to “private mode” by WordPress (on September 28th 2022) is appearing on Google as of this writing dated April 03rd 2023?

Please see WordPress policies on having websites set to “private mode” if proof of ownership cannot be established here. –> https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/#if-ownership-cannot-be-established
Also please note that it’s now been over 6 (six) months since the email sent to me on September 28th 2022, which assured me that the website I had created over 5 (five) years ago would be set to “private mode.” I made a type when I said it was 4 (four) months. The staff of WordPress who said that he would set the site to “private mode” on September 28th 2022 is Adam Leone. I hope the information I have provided will be helpful. Be well. Take care. Keep yourselves at arms distance.

Hi W, no worries about the typo. I’ve redacted the private email since we usually only email about the forums for more private issues, but I see what you’re saying.
It looks like the privacy setting previously didn’t take for some reason. Can you confirm that’s working now? I have confirmed on this side as well. Next, I’d recommend working through these steps to remove any cached search results; this may help too.

The site is linking to a private screen. Thank you.
