Looks like your domain is not pointing to WordPress.com name servers yet. Please go to your domain registrar’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:

The problem I appear to be having is that when I update the name servers as directed, I can send emails from my “new” email, (email visible only to moderators and staff), but I cannot receive emails. I have asked my email hosting company about this and they have replied with this:
“Checking on your concern, the reason why the email is not working is because the domain name is not pointing to our server for the Email.
Who ever has the domain name servers, they will be the ones to point the domain to the Mail Servers.
In this case the name servers are with WordPress
Name Server: NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
Name Server: NS2.WORDPRESS.COMPlease inform them that they need to
create a subdomain called mail.flamingomerchant.com
change the A-record of the subdomain mail.flamingomerchant.com to point to 203.170.81.33
assign the subdomain mail.flamingomerchant.com as the MX record for the domain flamingomerchant.com”Are you able to create a subdomain called mail.flamingomerchant.com? Or if not, can you please let me know how to do it?

You’re on the right track there.
You’ll need to get the exact DNS records from your email provider, then add them to your Custom DNS panel: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/
