Website takes 8 seconds to load

I’ve recently started working on a website called ‘uvsa.org’ and I’m finding that it takes about 8 seconds for the page to load. After using the inspect tool, the Waiting (TTFB) is about 6 seconds. I know someone went in and played around with the web servers, so that may be the issue. If this is the issue, how do we work around this? I’m not familiar with how WordPress works, so if anything, a guide as to where I can start to debug the issue would be great.
Confirming that the issue is not related to large images or files on the website

I’m afraid that this site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with HostGator.
Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers.
