website through .org

    Hi all

Currently looking into starting a site either through .org or .com but i do like to be able to design – move or ad items to a site, is there any way i can do this if i purchase a template and integrate to .com or .org paltform and if i don´t have enough knowledge to do this through the site codes like programmers can do.

Or asked in another way, what are my options to customise things through a paid template?

Hope someone can help me out here – happy Sunday.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @fashionpicssite,
If you are just looking for moving and adding elements then a paid WordPress.COM plan(Premium or Business) is enough for you because you will just need CSS in that case, which comes with the Premium and Business WordPress.com plan.

BUT, if you want to have additional functionalities like, uploading custom themes and plugins, editing the underlying HTML and PHP code of a theme, add our own JavaScript codes, and more… then go with WordPress.ORG.

Because WordPress.com does not allow us to upload custom themes(from third party sources like themeforest) and plugins, we are only limited to the in-built plugins and themes. And we are not allowed to edit the underlying HTML and PHP codes because this is a multi-user site and if we edit and save the HTML and PHP codes it will be applied to all the users. And JavaScript’s are not allowed on WordPress.com posts and pages for security reasons, as some scripts may be malicious which may harm your site.

Goal of WordPress.com is to keep things simple so that the technical stuffs are handled by WordPress.com and we can focus on creating quality content.

So think clearly, about what you wanna do with your site and go for whatever suits your needs :)

Hope this helps and All the best :)

Hi and thank you for a speedy repli.

I need the plugins available on the .org in regards to better SEO etc and probably going to integrate a theme from themeforest e-commerce

But i´m a bit of a design freak and want to put my own finger touch on a page design, but i´ve been told if i purchase a template/theme i wont be able to say ad boxes – images – move items around on the site, make a top banner smaller etc, and this is what i´m after, so i can always keep my site fresh and up to date.

So what are my options then? :)

If you are only worried about SEO then, read this for SEO on WordPress.com:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/seo/

You can just buy a premium theme(which has some premium functions and can be use only on WordPress.com sites exclusively).

Read more about premium themes here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/premium-themes/

But, only buying a premium theme does not give you access to the CSS editor.

So to edit/add your own custom CSS(since you are more inclined towards editing the design) you have to upgrade to a paid WordPress.com plan(Premium or Business). Upgrading to these plan also comes with unlimited premium themes so that you don’t have to buy them separately.

Read more about editing CSS here:

Since i´m a business i would need the business plan, but still not sure which option to go for.

I´m used to handle templates where i can ad just about anything and edit that through simple drag options etc, a lot with images, so if i just want to ad and edit image boxes i would have to do this through CSS regardless if it´s .com or .org right?

Doubt i´m good enough for fooling around with CSS codes etc to be honest, but main goal for me is userfriendly design options and SEO

First note this, there is nothing like drag and drop functionality for customizing the theme here on WordPress(.COM or ORG). There are just menus/options which we can enable and disable any feature of a theme. Everything rest can be handled by CSS.

If you just want to add and edit image boxes, then i suppose wordpress.com should be good enough for you because there are several premium themes as well as free themes that have this feature(image boxes) built in and if you want to add and edit them according to your needs you can use CSS-regardless of .COM or .ORG.

But sometimes, some design functionality requires some script like codes as well, so in that case WordPress.com woudn’t be a good choice.

If you do not want to edit any codes and just want a theme(with image box or grid like feature on which you can add you own images an contents) that can just work and do not need any editing of any kind then i suppose you should look for a perfect theme first on the theme page of WordPress.com, if you get your desired theme, then Welcome Aboard to WordPress.com my friend. :)

“I need the plugins available on the .org in regards to better SEO etc and probably going to integrate a theme from themeforest e-commerce”

Although it’s debateable that you’ll get better SEO elsewhere, if you intend to buy a theme from themeforest and want e-commerce then you’ll certainly need to head over to a self-hosted WordPress.org site as there is only limited e-commerce available at WordPress.com currently (a PayPal button).

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org
