I have just downloaded WordPress. They have given me the name warhorsecorporatecoaching.wordpress.com, but I want my website to be titled warhorsecorporatecoaching.com. Have I done something incorrect in setting up, and how would I correct that?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What you have setup so far is the free WordPress.com site, which will include “WordPress.com” in the domain name. You can purchase a domain through WordPress.com by going to the Domains Page and walking through the process there. https://wordpress.com/domains

Please let me know if you have any more issues.

  • Hi there. I just want to add a bit more explanation to @ariwinokur’s answer:

First, you didn’t download WordPress. This platform is WordPress.com, which is entirely online with free hosting. The WordPress you download is WordPress.org. That is the self-hosted version which you install to your own domain on your own server or the web host of your choice. See here for a complete breakdown of the differences: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you actually want to use the self-hosted version of WordPress, please visit the WordPress.org support pages and forum for assistance as we can’t help you with that in the WordPress.com forums: http://wordpress.org/support/

On WordPress.com, you start out with a free address. Yours is http://warhorsecorporatecoaching.wordpress.com/ To remove the ‘wordpress’ section from the URL you have to buy the custom domain you want and map it to that free address. The free address will always be there, as that’s where your blog is hosted on WordPress.com, but visitors will only see the custom domain when they view your site in a browser, and search engines will also index your site according to the custom domain.

The link @ariwinokur provided explains how to purchase or map a custom domain.
