Hi there,
The specifics would probably depend on the CMS, but I would advise the following general steps:
1. Create a free site with the address yourdomain.wordpress.com, and make it private
2. Create all your content in that site (either through export-import, if your CMS allows it, or manually: https://en.support.wordpress.com/import/)
3. Make the WordPress.com site public
4. Make the domain change: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/prepare-domain-for-transfer/Hope that helps! :)

Hi there,
I see you’ve since bought the Business Plan and have been helped in live chat, but for anyone else looking:
You can start building your site at the free WordPress.com address while keeping your domain at the current site. Just don’t add the custom domain until you’re ready.
If you want to use a Business Plan site with plugins you’ll need to add a domain there, but we can help you connect a subdomain on the domain you already own initially, until you’re ready to switch the main domain over.
For more help you can reach live chat support or priority email support 24/7 at https://wordpress.com/help/contact
