Website transfer
-
Hello,
I am wanting to transfer my domain and website over from wix to wordpress. I am wondering how to do this without my website going down during the 5-7 days it takes to do the transfer. Do I need to build my website here first? I’m a bit confused about how to sequence this shift while remaining online and in business (I have a web shop).
This is the notification I have from Wix regarding domain transfers:Here’s what will happen when you transfer your domain to a different provider:
Site visitors won’t be able to see your Wix site at wakingbird.com
Any connected email accounts will stop working
You’ll need to reconnect your domain to use it in this Wix account
Additional services like Google Analytics, Wix Chat and any third-party services will be disabled
Starting the transfer process will disable your domain’s auto-renewalGuidance here would be much appreciated.

Howdy,
So, first off, here is our support document regarding transferring a domain to WordPress.com:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/incoming-domain-transfer/
Secondly, the somewhat ominous warnings that Wix gives you are technically true. But that notice seems really designed to keep you from choosing to transfer (and thus them losing you as a customer). Also, the 5-7 days thing doesn’t mean that your site will be unavailable for 5-7 days. It will really be unavailable for the time between when the transfer goes through on the Wix end and when you have your new site set up here at WordPress.com (or you set your nameservers here to point back to Wix and your old site, which would be another option).
Finally, you could choose to merely map your domain from Wix to WordPress.com:

It is a quicker process and leaves your domain registration with Wix (which may be a plus or minus for you).
Let us know if anything is unclear or you have any further questions.
