The name servers or A records for the domain no longer point to WordPress.com. Can you login to your registrar and remap the domain to point to WordPress.com?
Here’s the preferred way: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

We never hosted anywhere other than WordPress though! I’m confused because there’s no external registrar for me to access. We’ve been using wordpress the whole time.

Are you sure about that?
Domain:grassrootsoh.org
Registrar:Gandi SAS
Name Servers:
ns1.zachspcsolutions.com
ns2.zachspcsolutions.com -
Aha! I was not sure, it was just what I had been told. And nowhere on the wordpress backend could I see what it was set too. The help link doesn’t actually take me to a page with more info it just goes back to the top of the page with the DNS settings for wordpress.

A host and a registrar are different, and so while you’ve hosted here the domain was registered elsewhere. The name servers were changed to point to other ones, but the A record pointed here up until recently.
