website verification

using the ‘meta’ method it says:
“Open the Tools Page and paste the code in the appropriate field.” When I open the tools page I don’t see any “appropriate field” ~ where is the field located? and what is it called? none of the options I saw were workable for the ‘meta’ script ~ thanks. I always thought I could read well ; ) .
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I did ~ that’s exactly what I was referring to ~
“Copy the meta tag, which looks something like
<meta name=’google-site-verification’ content=’dBw5CvburAxi537Rp9qi5uG2174Vb6JwHwIRwPSLIK8′>
Leave the verification page open and go to your blog dashboard.
Open the Tools Page and paste the code in the appropriate field.”I got the meta tag, went to the tools page and ~ there is no place to paste the code,
and no ‘appropriate’ or inappropriate field for that matter…..
<doh> -
In Tools > Available Tools, scroll down to Webmaster Tools Verification, do you not see a clearly marked “Google Webmaster Tools” box? :-)

I am trying to verify the blog
http://www.conscioustourism.wordpress.com
I followed the instructions and pasted this into the box next to Google Webmaster tools
google9344c78488c3dc22.html
then informed by google that they can’t verify the site.
Can you please advise
Many thanks for your consideration -
@681moberly: Did you follow the instructions here to the letter?
http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/#google-webmaster-tools
Your verification code should NOT begin with “google” and should NOT end with “.html” -
Thank you for your speedy reply
I stripped out the word google and the extension .html and entered this
9344c78488c3dc22-3
but it generated another verification failed message. -
Please confirm if you followed the instructions to the letter. Simply removing “google” and “.html” will not make it work.
Or are you trying to confirm something else (like Google Apps)?

I clicked on “add a meta tag to your site’s home page”
It said to copy the meta tag below and paste it into my site’s home page but I cannpt figure out how and where to find the html code behind the home page<meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”BdVcAscpmg6yHmkfcVveekpLCxipfaBfg4CcJBukjoE” />
Can you please advise – I am truly grateful!
-
That’s better. Go back to step 4 of the support document. It says exactly what to do with the <meta name…> that you just copied-pasted:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/webmaster-tools/#google-webmaster-tools -
I’m sorry – I am following you and your instructions and have gone to the tools page and posted this into the box next to google webmaster
<meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”BdVcAscpmg6yHmkfcVveekpLCxipfaBfg4CcJBukjoE” />
Saved changes and gone back to the Google Verify page and get the same failed message.
I appreciate you guiding me to do it myself. But I feel stupid now and I don’t know why

This is what the instructions actually say.
4. Copy the content value of the meta tag. The content value is the bold text in this example:
<meta name=’google-site-verification’ content=’dBw5CvburAxi537Rp9qi5uG2174Vb6JwH‘>In other words, you copy just what it says under “content”, not the entire meta tag. In your case, you only copy and paste the code below.
BdVcAscpmg6yHmkfcVveekpLCxipfaBfg4CcJBukjoE -
Thank you so much – it worked!
Is this code that erlates to me as 681moberly?
When I tried to repeat the exercise for another site on googlewebmaster, I was supplied with an identical code to conscious tourism?
cheers
Anna -
Glad I could help. I don’t know if different sites have different codes (I would have thought that no). I guess Google would be in a better position to answer.

It’s kind people like you that give wordpress.com such a positive reputation. Enjoy your weekend – if you get one that is!
