Website Verification Services doesn't work

  • Unknown's avatar

I am having trouble verifying my blog with other websites. I am trying to verify with Pinterest – I get the code, put it in the right slot in WordPress, press save, then go back and say “verify.” The window I get back says “Trouble verifying your domain. Please try again later.” I have tried again “later” for a full month almost. Any idea what I can do to make it work?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Kristine,

So I can best sort this out, would you mind copying the verification code into this forum? Make sure to use code tags so it will format easily. Here’s an example.

Where on your site have you been pasting the verification code? Into a page or post? Into a text widget?

    Best,

    Hi Alex,

I’ve been putting the verification code into the tools section of wordpress.com.

It says “Website Verification Services (?)
Enter your meta key “content” value to verify your blog with Google Webmaster Tools, Bing Webmaster Center, Pinterest Site Verification, Twitter Website and Yandex.Webmaster.”

I pasted this code for Pinterest:
    <meta name=”p:domain_verify” content=”5335d36cea0a8c807f854087a1f0ee2f”/>

Into the box on the tools page that says “Pinterest”
    Hopefully I answered you correctly!

    Hi Kristine,

That is definitely the right spot, most people try the spots I mentioned and this is a pretty easy fix. ;) But you did everything right! Which makes this more confusing, sadly. :/

You can check out your page’s source here and your pinterest verification code is definitely loading:

This makes me think the error is one of two things. One, the code generated by Pinterest was incorrect in some way. Perhaps you had a typo or whitespace in your url originally and the code was generated for that.

Or two, Pinterest’s tool for verifying is acting up.

Number two seems less likely, especially if it hasn’t worked for approximately a month.

My recommendation would be to start over with the process, generate a new Pinterest verification code for http://blog.iflist.com/ , enter the new code here at WordPress in the same way, and try to verify again.

If that still doesn’t work we’ll probably need to contact Pinterest support. Other than verifying that the meta tag appears in your site’s “head” section, there’s not much else happening on your site’s side of this equation.

Let me know if you hit any snags generating the new verification code.

    Best,

    -Alex G.

I got it to work! It seems like the problem was that the URL it was verifying was http://www.blog.iflist.com instead of http://blog.iflist.com/

I guess it doesn’t work without the http://

    Thanks for your help!
