Website with multi-page static front page

I want to create a website similar to these:

http://johnandsonsoysterhouse.com/#about-1-2Is this just a single page with complex formatting, or is it several pages that appear as a continuous scroll on the static front page? Any tips on a theme that will allow me to create a website like this?

What is common to all those themes is a specialized front page template that has a number of elements that come together.
