Website…not a blog!

  Hi

  I have a couple of blogs here but am getting increasingly confused and frustrated on the subject of websites.

  I want to create a full bona fide website that is stable across devices, that has a sharp professional look and is not a blog, does not have a blog look, nor a blog with a “front page” that gives the blog a website look as i saw in one youtube instruction.

  The only reference I want to a blog is a link out of the website to my blog.

  Is this possible? What am I not understanding when it comes to the difference between a wordpress blog and a wordpress website.

  Please tell me: How much does a website cost monthly, which themes are stable on iphone and androids for websites and can I as a beginner create a website without paying for professional tuition. I am reasonably savvy and willing to do the forum searches and tutorials available, and happy to purchase a top of the range premium theme for stability and a good look.

  everything I look in themes has archives and comments and latest posts. I don’t want any of that.

  I want a navigation side bar like here with unlimited static pages that I can name, and a link to my blog like on here on one of the pages, and links down the bottom in the footer …(like a website!)

  So I am seeking soemthing better. I’d like to use wordpress but I just can’t seem to see an easy route to what I seek.

  The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/

  On one hand, none of the characteristic “blog” features like categories, tags, authors, dates, etc. can be removed from a free hosted WordPress.com blog, without purchasing an annually renewable custom design upgrade and doing the required CSS editing.

  (1) There is only one page we can post to in any blog.
  (2) The static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ we bloggers create do not automatically update.

  Only the dynamic pages like Archives, Categories and Tags created by the software when we publish a post will update automatically update with new posts.

  By default the front page of the blog is the Page that displays all posts in your blog. You can create a static front page and have your published posts display on another page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ but doing that does not change what follows.

  Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.

  You don’t need the Archives, comments, latest Posts in etc. in the Sidebar. Just drop an empty text widget in the sidebar and they go away.

  No “unlimited” Pages, but the number is fairly high I think

  Many themes have Footer Widget ability and Page navigation can be moved there. You can put Page navigation in the Sidebar or you can use a theme that lets the Pages / Posts go full width with no Sidebar

  If you want to create a professional-looking website that doesn’t look the least bit bloggy and you are neither a designer nor an experienced user of WP, you are setting yourself up for a lot of work and disappointment. It can be done, and the instructions were given you above, but you’d be well advised to lay out some money for lessons or buy the WordPress for Dummies book.
