Websites for Photographers

Hi,
I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post but wanted to let WordPress.com be aware of the customers both potential and existing they are losing due to one extremely weak feature of their websites which is the display of images for Professionals.I am a web designer and have used WordPress.com to create an online presence for small businesses and organisations since 2012.
I appreciate WordPress.com has undergone considerable changes with a new editor and the use of blocks but feel now they should be concentrating on the styling of slideshows and galleries.
I have recently lost a long time valued client to Square Space due to WordPress.com’s inability to provide any reasonable options for a professional photographer to display their images in a website.
I completely concur with their move and am even thinking of doing the same for my hobby photography website even though I have been an enthusiastic champion of WordPress.com for so many years.
It appears on first look that there are several galleries to choose from but none of them have everything a photographer might want or need and if they do, they can only display a blurry image. My client has been in contact with the Happiness Engineers and they admit the blurry image is a problem they are unable to fix.
There is only one option for a slideshow – or two if you count the classic option and neither come anywhere near the standard of other website’s slideshow’s look and functionality.
It is truly disappointing that a photographer can not display an image in a gallery with a Lightbox feature that will display a caption, description, exif data and a sharp image.
If I do transfer my hobby site to Square Space and become familiar with their product, it is quite possible I will choose them as my preferred website builder of choice and will no longer recommend WordPress.com for my clients or in general.
Please reassure me that new slideshows and galleries are being developed as I write!

If you upgrade to the Business Plan, you’ll be able to use third party plugins. I’m sure you’ll find a suitable image gallery plugin at https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/gallery/

Well that would be more than double the monthly price of Square Space (for example) so why would I want to do that?

Oh yes, I completely agree with you. My posting was to make WordPress.com aware that they are losing customers because they are beginning to prefer other platforms.
