Websites using WP platform displays the same name
-
Hi!
I have this small issue i can’t seem to fix. I am a fan of this WP platform-based site, Wuxiaworld.com, and has multiple accounts/usernames in their local database. Actually, I really don’t want my main wordpress account to be displaying in there, yet, each time I login on my local usernames on that website, no matter what I choose, I always get the same thing on the notifications function that my main WP account is somewhat connected to that website.
the problem starts there since I can’t maintain my anonymous indentity so I end up not participating in any important discussions on their threads.
Can anyone please help me resolve this issue? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hello @jereddcliffe,
You can try clicking here if you will find it as connected apps for your WordPress account – https://wordpress.com/me/security/connected-applications
You may find more information from this link.
It would also be best for you to contact Wuxiaworld.com directly to close your accounts.

Hi there,
I don’t see this service under your connected applications, so the other possibility is that they are using the Gravatar service on their system. This means if you use the same email address there that you use for your WordPress.com/Gravatar account, it automatically pulls the data from your Gravatar profile and display it there. The only way to prevent this is to use a different email address on that service that is not connected to your Gravatar profile.

Hello @kokkieh,
They use “Login Using WordPress.COM” account button. I tested it, and registered an account for me, too, to see what’s happening. I also thought it’s Gravatar.
Then I notice that it added another site to My Site list (Wuxiaworld.com). I don’t see it in my Connected Apps, too. Now, I am trying to figure out how to disconnect it. There’s no Settings when I click on that site. See screenshot here.
Thank you so much.

Okay, so it looks like what’s happening is, when you sign up on that site, it adds a contributor account for you on the site which allows you to create posts in the forums. The WordPress.com login button means they’re using Jetpack’s single-sign-on feature on the site, which automatically links your account on that site with your WordPress.com username account. So it’s not a connected application, but instead you are added as a user on the site.
As that site is self-hosted we have no way of removing your user account on that site, though. You will have to contact the site owner or at least an admin who has access to the site’s WP-Admin dashboard to remove you from that site.
staff-imahappyengineer thanks for going the extra mile here – the Log in with WordPress.com button is the clue I needed – but please don’t feel you need to sign up to other services to test issues for users. Or if you do, I’d recommend using a test account rather than your regular WordPress.com account.

@Rose.
Thanks for the reply and clearing up a few things. I really appreciate it. I will contact them right now to remove my account and restart with a different account again.@kokkieh
Hello. Thank you for the advice and sorry for the late reply. I seem to actually do remember having a Gravatar account although there wasn’t an option there to remove my connection to the WP-Account. So what am gonna do right now is probably to just email them to remove my accounts that’s connected to their local database and restart again. You guys are awesome. Thanks for the support!
