Weebly to wordpress

I’d like to transfer my site over to WordPress but keep the same domain name, could anyone help with the technical? Should I just transfer the domain straight away — I’m concerned that if I do that I will lose the traffic to the live site whilst I create the new one.

The site I need help with is http://www.gingermarketinghq.com/. It is not hosted by WordPress.com or connected with Jetpack. This site is not linked to my WordPress.com account.

  • Hi there,

Don’t start with your domain, no.

First, create a new site in your account at https://wordpress.com/start/site/. If you want to transfer a domain to us, you will need a paid plan, but you can just select a free WordPress.com URL for now.

Then you’ll need to follow the steps here to import your Weebly content to that new site:

    https://transferto.wordpress.com/weebly/

The export file Weebly provides is not compatible with WordPress, so you’ll need to convert that to the right format after you export it. The page above explains exactly what you need to do.

Once you’re sure your content is all here, and the WordPress.com site looks the way you want, you can then update the domain settings on Weebly’s side to first point the domain to us, and then you can start the process to transfer it to us. That process is explained here:

Let us know if you have any questions about this.
