Weird DNS Issue?
-
I recently decided to move my blog to a new domain name rather than continue to use the free usual username.wordpress.com name. The domain I slected was available.
When I try and access the domain by typing it in a browser; either http://www.khdietrich.com, or just khdietrich.com it works fine. But if I type khdietrich and then hit control + enter I get redirected to another website: http://www.dietrichindustries.com.
I’ve done full DNS lookups on both my domain and the other one that pops up and both look to be in order. I have a cname record for the www (which works fine when fully typed out.). It’s only when only when I use control and enter to add the www and .com that there’s an issue.
Has anyone else had an issue like this previously?
Thanks.

I do know that no wordpress.COM URLs have the “www” in them. The support documentation states:
Also, please note that WordPress.com automatically removes the “www” from all URLs. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/
I’m sorry but that’s all I know. Perhaps another Volunteer knows something else that will be helpful.

It’s your browser that is doing that. It has nothing to do with the DNS settings.
Some browsers will interpret a malformed URL as a search engine query and redirect either a search results page or the first website in the results (like the “I’m Feeling Lucky” button in Google).
You’ll probably understand better if you go to Google and search for “khdietrich” and see what result comes first.

Thanks. That appears to be it. I’ve literally never run into that before and as it turns out it was only happening from on computer. I tested it when I got to work and it works on my two machines at the office without an issue.
