Weird followers
-
I’m so glad that I’m not the only one this is happening to. I’ve had 6 new outlook.com followers within a week, and four of those within the last two days. I’ve deleted them since.
-
Like many others we are glad to know that we are not the only blog to be getting all these weird followers. We had another 5 this morning. Thanks to all the experts who are trying to sort out what is happening and why. We hope the issue is resolved soon.

Is this issue affecting general members? I subscribe to a few blogs/newsletters thru wordpress and received 7500+ emails this morning “Confirming ” my subscription to accounts for everything from horses to carpentry and from every county from Russia to China to the US. I messages WordPress about it and was referred to this link , but this does not sound like the same thing that happened to me,

As I said in this thread yesterday, I did what I did, and now so far have NO MORE spam sign ups…
People can still follow your blog thru the blog follow, and basically have to be legit WP OR Blogger blogs/profiles to follow you that way, but I removed the email subscribe, and now it has stopped due to them having nothing to sign up for….. try it you might like it

@audio512180118, your issue is not related. Your email is being entered on sites rather than others subscribing to your site. This is the opposite.

Yup, same experience as everyone else: 6 or 7 such weird followers from Outlook.com starting Jan 16. Deleted them all today.
-
Same experience here. I can’t imagine what spam followers are getting out of the deal, but it is weird.

Greetings bloggers! I too am suddenly receiving a number of “outlook.com” followers. I’m hesitant to delete them because if there is a real person on the other end, they may just read something in my blog that will be life-changing–or at least helpful–for them. THANK YOU WORDPRESS STAFFERS for looking into this in the event that a continual increase of this nature might become problematic from a technical / functionality standpoint. :o)

The same here!
WP should add tricky-to-bots CAPTCHA request for potential e-mail followers! -

Oh boy! And I had thought at last my blog was getting popular when I had ten new followers…but no! they are just some bot-type-spam-scam followers. I did wonder about the weird email addresses and all from outlook.com…

I had the same experience – 6 or 7 new followers over last day or so with really long emails ending in .outlook. I set up a fake Google email account and sent each of them a “thank you for registering for my blog” email just to see if it bounced back or was a valid email address. Within literally 2 seconds of me sending each email they unfollowed me. So it has to be something automated.
Not sure what the purpose of spam following. What good does it do them?
-
Same issue here. Getting about 3-4 of those weird outlook followers per day. But cannot see them on my follower list, so I guess they must have unsubscribed again?

I have been talking to WordPress about this issue (I was getting them every day as well). They have realized the problem and have been working on it. I think they must have figured it out because the emails were removed from my list. If you see any others, they will want to know about it, mainly the name of the email and when they subscribed.

All of my blogs have been cleared of suspicious email followers as well! THANK YOU WORDPRESS!!! :D
Even if we/ our blogs weren’t in any danger, this gives us peace-of-mind!
Thanks again to the WordPress peeps who took care of this. :D -
