Thanks @timethief. I didn’t respond to any of the weird emails. I had started removing them before I found this forum. Then when I realized WordPress engineers were “on it,” I waited to see what would be recommended. The info here has been very helpful. THANKS!

I got five more this morning, but nothing after noon (central time), so fingers crossed that it’s over.

Good work WordPress – all suspicious followers now removed. Can I just ask in case it happens again … if I send out a post these damn nuisances will presumably receive it. Is there any way they can trace anything back to my actual email?…Sorry if this has already been covered off but don’t have time to read the whole thread

The weird followers have disappeared from our site too. Well done WordPress team. We hope this doesn’t happen again.

I’ve had the same issue, around 10 new outlook followers in the past week from questionable email addresses.
-
Seems a lot of people are getting these false outlook email followers. I have had many notifications of these but when I checked how many email followers I have, there is just the latest one. No others!

If those bots want to be bored to tears by my project management tales, I’m happy to keep them. 😂

Wow! This is an epidemic. And I don’t feel as paranoid knowing it’s not just me. All from outlook. What in the world are they trying to accomplish other than being annoying. They even went to a blog of mine that I haven’t posted on in over a year. Go fig! Glad I know now how to remove the email follow.

I have tried to delete these followers, but none of the email addresses are listed when I go to my site – people – followers (or – email followers). is there another way of preventing them from following or getting the email notifications?
SHould I be concerned that they are following but not showing on my ‘following” lists?

Hi everyone,
We are currently working on removing the fake email followers, so they may no longer be listed in your account when you go to remove them manually.
If you receive any new subscriptions of this type, please reply here. By new, I mean since my reply was posted in this thread.
Thanks for bearing with us :)

They tried again this morning. I got an email at 5:39 am telling me
urrutiazakellyzac @outlook is following me. When I checked there are no new email followers, so it didn’t make it all the way to my email list, but someone tried.
Thanks for getting a handle on this.

I have been having the same problem. I request WordPress to look into the matter and notify me when it is resolved. My blog is : thedestinesic.wordpress.com
What harm can these spammers be?
-
There is NO threat to any site made by any fake followers. Please read https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/weird-followers/page/2?replies=135#post-3064066

I’ve gotten about 11 of these ”followers” over the last few days too. They have disappeared now, but I wanted to let you know, so you knew how many bloggers had been affected by it.
Thank you so much for your efforts.

I’m continuing to get email notifications about signups, but they are not in email followers when I log in – thank you, Happiness Engineers!
Happy now :) :) :)

I’m receiving the same followers. Looking for the same kind of help others have had here.
