Weird font size on posts’ titles

Dear WP team. Out of nowhere, the size of the titles of my blog posts on my frontpage changed to a huge one. I did not set change any settings, however when I try to fix it in the Site Editor, when I set the size of my titles to H5, nothing happens. In the Style-Typography-Headers part under H5 there is a way smaller font size, but it does not apply when I choose it. When I clock on item inspection in Google Chrome, it says, that the title of the blogposts are formatted to H5, but later it says, ‘has-large-font-size’. The titles look weird in every browser I tried, however, they look OK on mobile (iPhone 13, latest iOS). Can you help me fix that? Thank you, Dávid

Edit: in Style Editor it shows the correct title size, that is why it is confusing.
Here is what I see in editor. Here is what my front page shows.

  • Hi there – one of the issues you will run into is the theme you are using is Al Dente, which is a retired theme. This means as we continue to develop WordPress, this theme will encounter unanticipated issues because the theme itself is no longer being updated. Unanticipated font changes are an example symptom.

If you would like to try to keep the theme, you could try switching the current font style to a different font style to see if another font behaves differently. You can try that in one of two areas: in the Site Editor, as shown here. Or within the Query Loop block settings demo here.

Try those two methods and let us know if either works to help get the fonts back on track. Beyond using a workaround, the best solution would be to choose a new non-retired theme. If you are interested in going this route, let us know and we can try to help with theme suggestions based on your current design (unless you tell us that it’s a great time for a redesign!).

Hi Dean, thank you so much for your detailed answer. The fonts look normal again, but I’m worried what other problems it may cause having a retired theme. I’d happily accept your recommendations with similar themes, thank you :) (One with nice design for recommended articles at the end of the posts would be the best, I struggle with that now, hence I do not use this function at all.)

Considering your current theme, you might find success with a Portfolio-style theme that offers a similar grid layout.

You have the flexibility to choose the specific one that suits your preferences. Explore our free, Premium (available on sites with our WordPress.com Premium, Business, and Commerce plans), and Partner (available to Business and Commerce plans) portfolio themes on this page: https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/portfolio

Feel free to explore all our themes to find the one that best aligns with your needs. Any of these themes should support the use of the Related Posts feature.

It’s essential to preview the theme or visit its demo site before making a switch. Keep in mind that if you decide to change your retired current theme, you won’t be able to switch back to it later.

I hope this guidance helps you begin the process! If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.
