Weird indexation of old .PDF files

For a client of mine, many old .PDF files are being indexed by Google. Now there are some weird things happening:

filetype:pdf site:domain shows 111 indexed .PDF files. These files are loaded from two different sources: /custom/uploads/ and /wp-content/uploads/. The media library only has 72 .PDF files listed. There are .PDF files indexed that I can’t find in the media library. Directory browsing is disabled.

How can it be that all these files are indexed and many can’t be found in the media library? When clicking the links the .PDF files can be opened so they are still uploaded somewhere.

How to stop indexing all these files?

    Hi,

Could you please send us the URL of the website you need assistance with so that we can point you in the right direction?

I would but after some research it seems that you can’t delete any posts on this forum. I don’t want the URL to be posted in public here. Is there any other option?

I see – it would’ve only been necessary to determine where your website is hosted. Do you have a plan subscription with WordPress.com, is your website hosted here?
