Weird outbound link in wordpress

    In my wordpress dashboard, stats section, i found weird outbound link. I don’t place it on any pages or posts of my blog. And I don’t know where it comes from.
    Does anyone have any ideas for this ? Tks

    Hi there,

    Are you referring to the Clicks section in your stats page? If you’re seeing clicks there for URLs that don’t match anything you’ve ever linked to on your site, that’s a form of spam.

    Basically what happens is the spammer visits your site and clicks on a link, but then uses their browser to send a fake referrer header back to your site in order to have a link they want recorded in your stats. Their hope is that you’ll see the link reflected in your stats and click on it to go to their site. You can see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referrer_spam for more info.

    We’re constantly monitoring WordPress.com/Jetpack stats for spam like this, so hopefully these will be getting blocked soon, but as the spammers are constantly modifying their tactics to get around blocks like these it’s likely to happen again.

    You can just ignore those links, though. These are being injected into your stats page directly, and aren’t visible to any visitors on your site.

    The OP is referring to the WordPress.com stats feature. Self-hosted sites have access to the same stats as WordPress.com site via the Jetpack plugin, and this forum is the correct place for them to get help with that feature, or else Jetpack support.

    The WordPress.org forums have zero ability to help with this, though, as stats are not a built-in feature of the open source WordPress software, and the volunteers who staff those forums have no access to WordPress.com’s systems to check someone’s stats.

    Please don’t refer people to the WordPress.org forums for issues that are not directly related to the open source WordPress software itself.
